We always make them…and we make them too hard to do. The best way to change is to create an overall plan for the year and then divide the list into 12 sections, starting in the first month on the first thing on the list and when that has changed, go on to the next thing on the list, until by the end of the year, 12 things are updated in our life. They say it takes three weeks to change a habit…our list gives you four! That will ensure you are ready for the next thing on the list as its month rolls around.

When it comes to health, many factors affect us. Stress, anger, bitterness, lack of sleep, not pacing ourselves, lack of proper nutrition, lacking in meaningful relationships, and giving to little or too much of ourselves can all create imbalance in our lives, which leaves the door wide open for disease to overcome our otherwise smart immune systems. Let us help our immune systems out in this year by developing some balance in our lives that will lead to joyful hearts, strong bodies and powerful disease fighting abilities.

Month by Month Action Plan for the New Year

January – Feed Yourself! With all the ads for weight loss this time of year, the idea that you need to feed yourself might come as a surprise to many of you. Besides our culture that encourages over-indulgence, there are other reasons that many people over-eat. Their bodies are so starved for good solid nutrition because of filling it with drive-through junk, that they eat and eat trying to get the same feeling that power-packed nutrition could have given them in a smaller number of calories. Supplementing your less than perfect food intake with a daily multi-vitamin can be one fast and smart way to make a change in January!

February – Get a Tan! Not the harmful kind, of course, but the kind that can give you that little extra boost of confidence for all those pale days of winter. Sunless tanning cream and sunless tanning oils are a fun way to brighten your outlook on life!

March –Fresh Air! We usually wait until warmer weather to get out and refresh ourselves, but an early spring walk can do more for a lagging immune system than all the Tea in China. De-stress and fill your lungs with some cool fresh air before we start using the hot weather as an excuse to stay indoors. Vitamin C can help give you a pre-spring boost this time of year, so take some extra this month!

April – Stretch! Did you know that some good stretches in bed before you get out of the warmth of your cocoon each day can lead to less painful joints, fewer injuries and more release of pain fighting endorphins? Download a list of easy stretches for all your joints and your spine and start doing them every day. Joint pain can also be relieved with Omega-3 Glucosamine!

May – Drink More! Not alcoholic beverages, not carbonated beverages, of course! Drink more spring water and add some acidophilus too. This adds back into our gut the good bacteria that we often need to replenish due to harsh eating habits and overuse of antibiotics!

June – Clean Out! Find a drawer, a closet or a cupboard you haven’t really looked into for about five years and dump everything out and see what you can get rid of. The rule is: If you haven’t used the item in 6 months or more – GET RID OF IT! Then organize the keepers and enjoy your fresh start. While you are at it, clean out the closet of your body, by doing a cleanse with a colon cleanser!

July – Sunshine! We keep being told to stay out of the sun, but it is a much needed ingredient in our overall health and wellbeing. All it takes is a chemical free sunblock and some common sense to enjoy its life giving warmth and energy!

August – Learn Something New! School isn’t just for kids. Everyone should take time to learn something new and pass it on to the next generation. Volunteer at a tutoring center, teach someone to read, read a book at the library, take a class. Trouble paying attention? Studies suggest that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be linked to omega-3 oil deficiency. Get your Omega’s everyday!

September – More Sleep! American by large work more hours than any other nation on earth and sleep fewer hours! Sleep is a critical component to health…get more with this herbal sleep remedy!

October – Take a Mini-Vacation! Getting a change of scene and getting away from electronics can help reduce stress. This time of year is usually a nice cooler time of year to travel and in some areas to see the beautiful fall colors. Gather up your family, pack your bags and get out of town for a time of rejuvenation. Don’t forget to take your supplements with you!

November – Gratitude! Need a little shift in your outlook on life? Things got you down? Volunteer at a homeless shelter or a women’s crisis center and your attitude will improve immediately! Taking St. John’s Wort can help your attitude also!

December –Slow Down! Look at your ongoing activity list and things you have chosen to commit to and loose one per month over the next year until you are down to a dull roar! Learn to say, “NO!” The world will NOT come to an end if you choose to say NO to so many extra curricular activities that sap your energy and time away from meaningful relationships. Make your spouse and your children or grandchildren the most important commitment on the list this year! They need you and their world might come to an end if you don’t pay attention! Calcium is a great way to relax and unwind!

Believe it or not, there is something worse than horrible holiday house guests, and that is the unwelcome guest of holiday stress. If you are like many of us, you are trying to make your holiday look like a movie on the Hallmark Channel. The demands of everyday life coupled with all the added activities and work surrounding the holidays can create anything but world peace and lasting joy!

With our practical tips to maintain your balance and your health, you may end up enjoying the holidays after all.

Be Realistic. The only thing that stays the same is “death and taxes”, so they say. So start with a mindset to be flexible and able to grow and change. Don’t set up a standard for your holidays that has to be followed every year. Realize that families change and grow and finances wax and wane, so traditions and standards often have to change as well. Accept reality and do what makes sense each year without feeling like you have to either out-do yourself, or stick to previous decisions.

No Budget Busters. This has never been more important that this year, with all its economic uncertainties. Happiness was never bought, so realize that true gifts come from the heart and try to find ways to give of your time rather than from your pocket book. If material gifts are still on your agenda, set a spending limit for each person and be sure to stick to your decision once the time comes to plunk down your cash. Do not use credit cards to finance your way through the holidays. Your stress levels will match your debt level.

Just say NO. Don’t let piles of resentment build up over all the things you said you would do, that you cannot do without hurting your health or emotions. People may be used to your saying YES to everything, but there is no time like the present to teach them a new thing…be brave and say NO and protect the one thing you cannot buy this year: your health and happiness.

Keep Up Healthy Habits. Don’t let the holidays become a one-way ticket on the Sugarland Express. A little indulgence is fine, but guilt and depression will soon become longterm guests if you over-indulge. Try eating a healthy snack before parties to cut down on temptation. Get plenty of sleep and schedule time for physical activity. Don’t forget to take your multivitamin every day to fortify your nutrition.

In many parts of the country, homegrown gardens, farmer’s markets and other sources for organic fresh raw fruits and vegetables are gone for the season. While many grocery markets are now offering organic sources, the prices for off-season fruits and veggies can soar.

An easy and fast way to get your greens each day during the winter season is Spirulina. Natural and 100% vegetarian, Spirulina is a green superfood from bluegreen algae sources that promotes long life and immune health through its nutritional and antioxidant benefits.

Eating 1 serving of Spirulina greens a day is equivalent to 3 – 4 servings of common vegetables a day in terms of antioxidant content (beta-carotene).

Spirulina contains a variety of carotenoids, which work together as antioxidants, protecting us from the damage of free radicals. The two most important carotenoids are beta carotene (promotes health at the cellular level) and zeaxanthin (which promotes eye health).

Other benefits and nutrition include: easy-to-digest all-vegetable protein, good source of phytonutrients, source of the essential fatty acid GLA, and easy-to-absorb iron.

Spirulina comes in many forms, such as dry powder that can be mixed into water or fruit juices as a drink, or added to smoothies and shakes for nutritional benefit. It also is available in soft-gels, veggie-tabs, and capsules.

You can find it mixed with other ingredients for even more health benefits, such as digestive enzymes, probiotics, Chlorella, Barley Grass, Wheat Grass, Alfalfa and other natural greens for detoxification. So whether your need is for more greens in your diet, help with digestion problems or constipation, or ingredients to help fight yeast infection and other gut maladies, there is a formula just right for you.

While some school districts and colleges have already started up for fall, some families are still awaiting the upcoming first day of school. This brings excitement to some and to others, a fear of change, a fear of the unknown and some nerves.

While change always elicits some kind of emotional response from us, we have a lot of control over the type and amount of energy we spend on something. Are we re-acting, or acting? Are we choosing our responses, or feeling like a victim?

What we model is usually what our children will mimic. If they see parents being all too excited to see them off to school, it could rouse a feeling of rejection in them. If they see the parent getting anxious about the upcoming changes – separation fears, scheduling challenges, financial strains – we can fully expect that our offspring will also experience or show those same negative feelings and/or add some of their own to the mix.

Take time to measure your responses and make sure you are modeling positive feelings about the changes that this season brings. Take time to discuss feelings with your family as a whole and with each child. The more proactive you can be, the easier the transition will be.

Then sit back and let time work out the rest. Some kids re-enter school and find their new teacher, new school room, and new classmates to be fun and exciting. Some kids take more time to get used to things. Encourage slow changers to give things time to feel right.

In the meantime, make sure your whole family doesn’t forego the basics:
•	Get enough sleep each night
•	Exercise as a family at least three times a week
•	Eat a healthy breakfast and dinner together as a family each day
•	Develop and model good work habits
•	Develop and model organization
•	Have a sense of humor – take time to laugh as a family each day

Approximately 13% of all kids suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder. Helping them talk about their feelings and addressing their valid concerns is something every parent will want to make a priority.

Cheap and Fun Ideas for Taking a Home Based Vacation:

–‘Plug-In’ With your very own Foreign Film Festival! Plan and cook an international meal and then sit down for an evening of international films (with English captions) rented from your local library.

–‘Un-Plug’ By putting all the hand-held electronics in a box with a tight fitting lid for a week. Pre-notify important people that you are taking an electronics vacation, and turn off your cell phone, and put away all those games. Pick out a book that will interest your whole family and take turns reading it aloud, while enjoying the ‘sound of silence’ in your life.

–‘Summer Olympics’ – Family Style! Plan a week-long event consisting of several activities or sports that family members enjoy, enlisting the help and presence of friends and neighbors. Plan one or two ‘events’ per day, giving each family member the chance to lead his/her own favorite sport or activity. Plan outdoor events for the morning to avoid the afternoon heat of the day and use that time for indoor events, such as Scrabble or Monopoly marathons.

–‘Get Festive!‘ Check out local festivals for something happening in your neck of the woods and plan a week around the event. Make eating at a restaurant or two with freight cuisine part of your plan and don’t forget to visit a local museum or art gallery.

–‘Unwind’ by using part of your travel budget on a stay-at-home-get-away instead. Make reservations for everyone in the family above the age of 12 at a local spa, making sure that each person gets pampered in the way he/she likes best: facial, massage, pedicure, body wrap, etc.

Make your Vacation Perfect by not Sharing it with Bugs:

Buzz Away Bug Repellant – Why Risk Using Deet Products When Our Effective Natural Repellent Does The Job?

Fact: Men love sex and feel validated by sexual intimacy
Fact: Most women are too busy, too stressed, too tired to become sexually aroused.

Zestra® is a breakthrough in women’s sexual health – one that women and medical experts extol for its natural design, ease of use and effectiveness. All-natural Zestra® is a patented blend of botanical oils and extracts designed to increase female, arousal, pleasure, satisfaction and sexual sensation. It is drug-free and hormone-free, making it safe for women and their partners. The ingredients stimulate the body’s sensory nerve conduction which enhances sexual sensitivity and satisfaction. It is the only product available to consumers that is clinically shown to quickly and effectively increase female sexual sensation, arousal, pleasure, and improve sexual experiences for women.

Several clinical studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of Zestra®. According to the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy 2003;29 Supplement 1:33-44, Zestra® was shown to increase sexual sensation, arousal, pleasure and satisfaction in women with and without sexual arousal difficulties, including those suffering from the sexual side effects of menopause, anti-depressants or other medications, such as oral contraceptives, and stress or fatigue.

Another clinical study of Zestra® was designed to ascertain its effectiveness and safety for increasing female sexual pleasure and satisfaction in diverse populations of women. This study also measured the effects of improved sexual experiences of women on both relationships and depression. The women in this study range from 21 to 65 years have mixed sexual disorders, including problems with interest or desire, inability to become aroused and lack of orgasm.

This unique oil is discreet and easy to use. Applied to the clitoris, labia, and vaginal opening during foreplay, Zestra® begins to work on the sexual pleasure pathway. Zestra® also serves as a lubricant, simulating naturally occurring female lubrication. The number one reason for discomfort during intercourse is dryness. Dryness most often occurs during and after menopausal transition due to low estrogen levels, from childbirth or breast feeding, from effects of cancer therapy, surgery or medications, immune disorders and from smoking.

Have you ever wondered, just what’s this aromatherapy thing all about? Well, although the term “aromatherapy” is relatively new, humans have been using scents as a way to increase well-being for centuries.

To understand why humans use scents to create and increase well-being, we need to take an abbreviated look our olfactory sense or our sense of smell. Our olfactory sense is one of our most complex and sensitive physiological systems. It’s estimated that humans can process, recognize and remember up to 100,000 different smells. In our nasal cavities, we have thousands of olfactory nerve cells with nerve endings that carry the scent messages directly to our brain. In addition to being able to access memories and remind us of the first time we smelled something, our sense of smell directly and immediately affects the central nervous system.

The use of aromatherapy can be traced back more than 5,000 years. Ancient Egyptians burned incense made from aromatic plants in order to honor their gods. They believed that the rising smoke would carry their prayers directly to the gods. In addition to incense, the Egyptians used aromatic herbs, spices and oils in religious ceremonies, in medicine and in daily life. Greeks and Romans also applied the use of aromatic substances for healing. Hippocrates used aromatic fumigations to rid Athens of the plague.
Today, we use aromatherapy to enhance our lives on many levels: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It’s used to assist in strengthening the body and help to bring our whole being into harmony by affecting the mind and body concurrently.

Essential oils are the natural (vs. laboratory-made, chemical), fragrant and highly concentrated constituents of plants. Essential oils can be extracted from the leaves, stems, berries, flowers, roots, fruit, peels or wood from various plants. There is a plethora of aromatherapy essential oils and just as many uses for them. Today, we use essential oils to scent massage oils, bath products, soaps perfumes and cosmetics. We can use them to scent cleaning products and to help banish germs, mold, bacteria and fungi. We can also use them to scent our environments through the use of diffusers and candles. One note of caution, essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be used undiluted on the skin.

One of the most popular and loved essential oils is lavender. It’s used to relax, calm, tone, refresh and cleanse the body and mind. It’s a highly versatile oil that can ease tired muscles, balance head tension and soothes sensitive skin.

Peppermint is another popular oil. Although commonly used as a flavoring in foods, it is used to diminish headaches by rubbing the diluted oil on the forehead, back of neck and temples. Peppermint oil has been used to treat everything from asthma to stomach problems.

There are several websites dedicated to aromatherapy education. To learn more about aromatherapy, the wide variety of essential oils and their uses, I suggest www.aromaweb.com
